The Osun government said on Saturday that it would establish an automotive specialist institute to be named Bola Ige Mechatronics Institute (BIMI) at the Osun College of Technology, Esa-Oke.

Semiu Okanlawon, Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Office of the Governor, said this in a statement in Osogbo.

According to him, the institute, when completed, will be the first of its kind in the country.

He said the institute would specialise in modern technology in vehicles such as combined electro-mechanical system with full automated control known as “Mechatronics.”

The new technology, the statement said, reduces the use of kilos of wires making way for light weight and greater efficient motor vehicles of today.

“The state government has concluded arrangements to send 30 indigenes to Germany to properly master the technology.

“The fund for the project is an intervention soft loan provided by the National Automotive Council through its Auto Development Fund Loan Scheme with the Bank of Industry (BOI).

“Following due process, advertisement was placed to attract qualified automotive, mechanical and electrical engineers and technicians who have been tested and recruited,” Okanlawon said.

According to him, they are to go for a two-month training course at LN, Germany and will thereafter return to install the machines in the complex at Esa-Oke.
