Jonathan lauds Chinese Premier’s wife

Wife of the president, Patience Jonathan on Tuesday praised the wife of the Chinese Premier, Mrs Mme Cheng, for redeeming her donation to the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM).

Jonathan, President of AFLPM, said this when she took delivery of the items from Mme in Abuja.

Mme recently accompanied her husband, Li Keqiang, on an official visit to Nigeria and had pledged to donate some office equipment to the mission.

The items which was presented by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Gu Xiaojie, on behalf of Mme, included computers, cameras and Ipad.

“We are overwhelmed by her Excellency’s kind gesture and also grateful that she kept her promise,” Jonathan said.

The first lady recalled that it was after the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 in China that the idea of the mission was conceptualised.

According to her, the purpose of the mission is to address the peace situation in the continent with regard to the role of women.

She also added the mission mobilise both government non-governmental resources to help reduce violent and their effects in Africa.

Jonathan stressed the need to strengthen the culture of peace and development in the World, Africa and Nigeria.

“We (AFLPM) will continue to pursue peace in our country, region and in the whole world,” she said.

Xiaojie had commended the first lady for her support for peace and empowerment of women.
