#BringBackOurGirls Rally In Lagos

In the file: Nigerian women protest Chibok schoolgirls kidnap in Abuja

A rally to free the Chibok girls from the Boko Haram insurgents will take place in Lagos, western Nigeria, a group said on Monday, more than two months after they were kidnapped from their school dormitories in Borno State.

Communities Rising, which is made up of various communities within Anthony Village, Gbagada, Maryland, Mende and environs, said the rally will take place next Saturday, 28 June.

“The rally will take off from the Anthony Village Playground and proceed in a well organised and peaceful march to the Mende Town Hall where a letter to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan shall be delivered to our House of Representatives member, Honourable Dayo Alebiosu. Members of our communities will address the rally,” the group said.

The group said a digital display board will be mounted and at a major intersection in Anthony Village to count the days since the abduction of the girls on 14 April.

“Our aim in organising this rally is to put pressure on the Federal Government to put effort into ensuring that our girls and all other abducted persons are brought back home safe and sound. Also, we hope that our rally will be a spark for other communities to organise rallies of their own because people feel strongly about this issue but do not know what to do,” the group said.
