Navy, Police to strengthen cooperation

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, said on Thursday that the Nigerian Navy would strengthen the existing cordial relations between it and the Nigeria Police Force.
This was contained in statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Kabir Aliyu.
The statement quoted Jibrin as saying that in Abuja when the acting Iinspector General of Police, Alhaji Suleiman Abba, paid him a courtesy visit.
Jibrin pledged Navy’s continued support to the police in the areas of internal security and other joint operations.
“In order to bolster the existing relations between the two services, the CNS floated the idea of an exchange programme between the two services.
“This is where officers from the Navy could serve as visiting lecturers at Police Colleges to educate would-be officers on the roles of the Nigerian Navy and vice versa,” the statement said.
Earlier, Abba said he was at the Naval Headquarters to explore areas of cementing the existing relations between the two services.
It quoted the IG of Police as pledging police resolve to nurture the cooperation and partnership that exists between it and the Navy as a strategic partner in the fight against oil theft.
The statement added that Abba said that his major concern was to effect an attitudinal change in the rank and file of the Police force.
