Lai Mohammed, Tinubu’s Media Aide Arrested In Osun

The tension in the State of Osun, western Nigeria heightened Friday night, just few hours to the commencement of the gubernatorial election in the state, with the arrest of the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Sunday Dare, the media aide of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the party.

Mohammed was arrested by security agents in Osogbo, the state capital on the eve of the state’s governorship election, according to a statement by his personal assistant, Mr. Williams Adeleye.

The statement said Alhaji Lai Mohammed was arrested along with Mr. Dare and the Deputy Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor, Mr. Salisu.

“They were arrested Gestapo style by a team of soldiers and DSS agents while they were heading to the Government House, and taken to an unknown destination in an unmarked truck.

“The arrest was the latest in a series of clampdown targeting opposition leaders and members ahead of Saturday’s polls in Osun,” the statement said.

There had earlier been reports of alleged harassments and raiding of hotels by security personnel drafted to the state just as the APC had accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as well as the police of partisanship in a way that would favour the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the election.
