Two docked for stealing generators

The Police on Monday arraigned Paul Benedict, 29 and Jamilu Usman, 25, in Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing three electricity generators.

Benedict, a driver and Usman, a labourer, were said to have committed the crime on 7 August at the Foreign Affairs Quarters, Federal Housing, Maitama, Abuja.

The police Prosecutor, Sgt. Mohammed Ahmed, told the court that the accused were reported at the Maitama Police Station by one Ajuo Sunday, a security guard at the quarters.

Ahmed said the accused were caught by Sunday, who was on duty on the fateful day.

According to the prosecutor, two of the generators belong to one Keturah Abba and Chiezie Christiana of the same quarters.

He said the owner of the third set was yet to be identified. He said the crime was contrary to Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Senior Magistrate Aliyu Shafa, therefore, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the matter until 8 September for hearing.
