The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has assured the current African Middle Weight Pro-Wrestling Champion, Aliking Mohammed, automatic promotion after defeating his Camerounian counterpart in a match.

Moro gave the assurance when Mohammed presented the African Middle Weight Pro-Wrestling Title belt won by him (wrestler) to the minister and the proposed championship card in Abuja.

Mohammed, who is also addressed as the ‘Action Disaster’, is an inspector with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on grade level 7.

“I want to promise you here that if you go out there and conquer your opponent on 2 November, your promotion to the next rank in the service will commence from that date.

“I promise you that we will give you all the technical support you need and if need be provide relevant financial support.

“I feel particularly encouraged that one of us is making the corps; ministry and nation proud. Going by the record you enumerated you give a glimmer of hope that Nigeria can rule the world again,” Moro said.

He assured the wrestler of the country’s support, adding that, “any honour you will garner that day will be an honour to your country; we hope that you will not stop here and that the sky will be your limit”.

The minister reiterated the Immigration, Prisons, Fire and Civil Defence Board’s willingness to elevate by ranks individuals in the corps who make the nation proud, urging Mohammed to continue to put in his best.

Mohammed gave the assurance that he would defend the title and take home a win against his USA based Camerounian counterpart known as ‘the US bin of Cameroun’.

He said that although his opponent was in a developed country where he had at his disposal modern facilities and training equipment, he assured that this would not deter him from winning the contest.

“Even with the poor training facilities we have here it will not hinder or stop my practice because I have been going to developed countries on training tour.

“My advice to all upcoming wrestlers is to ignore violence and be focused and disciplined,” the wrestler urged.

He said that his activities as a wrestler and African champion was directed at promoting peace, unity and security in the country, enjoining the ministry to intensify efforts on intelligence to attain security pro-activeness.

“The Ministry of Interior has the mandate of maintaining internal security and the nation is relying on its effort and that of other security agencies to curb the prevailing security challenges.

“The tactical combat operation of our security agencies should be improved through regular local and foreign training, retraining, human talent resource management and personality branding as a means of combating crime in the country,” he said.

Mohammed said that through the effort, youths would be encouraged to develop their talent and avoid restiveness which, according to him, has proven to be a major source of security challenge.

“The African Topclass Pro-Wrestling Stars (ATWS) int’l, the body promoting the African title defence is aware of the Ebola virus which has become a global health emergency.

“It will therefore put all machinery in place to avoid further spread of the virus as all incoming wrestlers and officials will be medically screened at the port of entry and appropriate health designations.”

Mohammed emerged the African Middle Weight Wrestling Champion on 9 September 2007, after contesting for the title against the African Stone Cold of Ghana.

The 30-year old wrestler has since defended the title by beating other wrestlers from Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Benin Republic, among others, making him the top wrestler in the middle weight category.

He is to face his opponent from Cameroon at the Mainbowl of the Apeh Akwu Stadium, Makurdi, on 2 November.
