Sokoto state donates N2m to orphans, needy

The Sokoto State Government has donated a total of N2 million to 50 orphans and 100 needy persons to alleviate their sufferings, the Chairman of the State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, said.

The chairman made the disclosure in an interview with NAN in Sokoto on Monday. He said the money was disbursed on 7 September by the Orphans and Needy Persons Sub-committee of the endowment committee.

Maidoki said 50 orphans were given N20,000 each, while 100 needy persons got N10,000 each respectively.

The donation was part of the monthly gesture extended to the beneficiaries by the state government, he added.

“The donation is also part of the various intervention efforts of the state government being extended monthly to the needy and other vulnerable persons through the committee.”

He then urged wealthy individuals in the state to form endowment funds to complement the efforts of the state government in funding the activities of the committee.
