2015: Conduct credible elections, APC tells INEC

National Secretary, All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Maimala Buni, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on its success in the recent Osun governorship election, for 2015 general polls.

Buni, who made the call in an interview with NAN in Damaturu, Yobe, said that the commission had laid good foundation which could be improved on for future elections.

“The preparations by INEC in the Osun election was better than what was obtained in the past thereby correcting the avoidable flaws usually associated with election in Nigeria.

“The Osun election showed tremendous improvement from what was usually obtained in the past.

“We urge the electoral body to carefully study the entire process to improve on areas in need of improvement.”

“If INEC takes care of the loopholes, we will have credible and acceptable elections in this country.

“The commission seems to have a rising image and it will be a gross disservice for the commission to allow anyone, group or political party, to jeopardize this growing profile.

“As an electoral body, INEC must be totally independent, fair and objective in executing its responsibilities without fear or favour to any candidate, party, individual, group or official,” Maimala added.

He called on political parties and politicians to support the commission to conduct free, fair and acceptable elections in 2015.

He also urged security operatives to remain neutral while on duty during elections.
