2015: Youths caution politicians against inflammatory utterances

A youth group, Union for Social Resistance (USR), on Tuesday cautioned politicians against making inflammatory comments that could destabilise the nation ahead of 2015 general elections.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Benedict Okoro and the National Secretary, Emeka Nwani, at a news conference in Abakaliki, expressed dismay over comments by some leaders of opposition political parties.
The duo said the comments were “unfortunate”.
USR also said the maximum age limit for presidential and governorship candidates should be pegged at 70, to pave the way for younger persons to contribute in nation building.
“We will not allow any persons above 70 years to rule this country again.”
They said that the group was motivated to unite and champion the course of the youth because they were usually victims of outbursts or actions of the politicians.
They said that the group had mobilised members to avoid politicians who made unguarded comments capable of derailing the nation.
“We therefore call on the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and other relevant security outfits to begin the prosecution of Nigerians, especially politicians, who make inciting comments capable of throwing the nation into chaos,” the group said.
The USR expressed support for the transformation agenda of the Federal Government positioned to improve the living condition of Nigerians.
The group commended the various development thrusts and policies of the Jonathan-led government to create jobs for the unemployed youth in Nigeria.
