How Assassins Killed NURTW Chief, Agbede Calls For Probe

Details of how the Vice Chairman of the Lagos Mainland branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Babajide Dosunmu, a.k.a Mados, was killed on Tuesday night have emerged.

P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that the popular NURTW chieftain who is also the Chairman of Yaba branch of the union was killed unidentified gunmen at his home on Tuesday night as he was parking his car at the back of his house.

A source at his Cemetery Street residence in Ebute Meta revealed this morning that the assailants traced him home and immediately he alighted from his parked car fired at him.

“He ran for his dear life but another bullet hit him in the leg. He fell down and the assassins came closer, shot him on the buttocks and chest,” the source narrated.

The source revealed further that Mados, father of six, was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival because he had lost too much blood,” the source who is relative of the deceased stated.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, has appealed to members of the union in Oyingbo area of the state not to take laws into their hands by trying to avenge the killing of their  branch vice chairman.

Instead, the Lagos NURTW boss, in a statement he issued on Wednesday, urged the police to get to the root of the assassination and bring the culprits to book.

Agbede who is attending the ongoing delegates conference of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja, expressed confidence in the ability of the police to investigate the murder and apprehend the culprits.

He appealled to members of the union in Oyingbo to remain calm and allow the police to do their job.

He urged them to cooperate with the police by availing them of all the necessary information to unravel those behind the dastardly murder.

“I want to appeal to our members in Oyingbo axis to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. You have to be very careful in the way you handle the situation because any violent reactions will not be tolerated. There is tension in the land already and I don’t want our members to be involved in any activity that may tarnish the image of the union,” he stated.

He called on the police to intensify efforts aimed at arresting the killers and bring them to book to serve as a lesson to others.  “The union will give you all the necessary support,” he added.
