Barely 24 hours to the governorship election, the campaign organisation of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate and the incumbent governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has called out to the people of the state, particularly, the security agents to be vigilant and be on guard to prevent and checkmate the undemocratic plan of the opposition to undermine the electoral process on Saturday.
The Senator Ibikunke Amosun Campaign Organisation, SIACO also accused the opposition, especially, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of conniving with some operatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to get thousands of PVC’s which ought to have been distributed to the people with the intention of corrupting the voting process and manipulate the results sheet.
This was made known on Thursday during a press briefing by the campaign group at the MITROS Hall, Housing Estate, Ibara, Abeokuta.
Briefing newsmen, the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Hon. Bode Mustapha noted that the party from a reliable source gathered that the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, having realised that they cannot win the elections on Saturday, have resorted to a sinister plot to cause mayhem, aimed at preventing the electorate from voting.
SIACO also disclosed that the PDP had already recruited some thugs and cultists, whom they have fully equipped and deployed to many parts of the state to cause chaos and mayhem during the exercise, so as to invalidate the elections of that area.
According to him, “we gathered here this morning to inform you about the intelligence we gathered from usually reliable sources about the plan by the opposition, particularly, the PDP in our state to undermine the electoral process on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
“The PDP, having realised they cannot win the governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday have resorted to a sinister plot in which they will cause mayhem aimed at preventing the electorate from voting, disrupting the voting and counting process and creating an atmosphere of chaos that will compel the electoral body to cancel the votes across the state, particularly in the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
“We want to remind you all that the characters that constitute the leadership of the PDP are used to this unconventional and uncivilised method.
“They used it effectively in 2007, they also tried it in the 2011 polls but were checkmated by the security agencies and the determination of our people. Violence is their usual stock in trade.
“Their objective for this desperate plan is to reduce the number of valid votes that will be available for determining who wins the Governorship and House of Assembly seats on Saturday,” Mustapha revealed.
The former member of the Federal House of Representatives expressed confidence in the candidature of Amosun and the 26 lawmakers of the party.
While expressing confidence in the ability of the security agencies to prevent any threat to security, peace and orderly conduct of the elections, the group called on the people to remain vigilant and promptly report any incident or suspicious movement to law enforcement agents.
Mustapha appealed to the good people of the State to massively vote for Ibikunke Amosun and the 26 State lawmakers to be able to complement the rebuilding mission which it began four years ago.
