Ekiti Chief Judge Frees 34 Prison Inmates

Ekiti State Chief Judge, Ayodeji Daramola

Chief Judge Ayodeji Daramola of Ekiti State on Thursday released 34 awaiting-trial inmates in Ado- Ekiti Federal Prisons.

Daramola ordered the release when he visited the prison as part of measures to check congestion.

He decried the large number of inmates awaiting trial in the prison.

He said those who were released had no case to answer from the Ministry of Justice, while some were released unconditionally.

The Controller of the Prison, Mr Attar Mustapha, appealed to the relatives of those who were released not to reject them, “so that frustration will not lead them to committing greater offence.’’

Mustapha added that some of the inmates were victims of circumstance, and called on the public, NGOs and religious bodies to come and build workshops in the prison to keep the inmates busy.

One of the freed inmates, Sunday Ogundele, thanked the chief judge for coming to their aid and promised not to go back to crime.
