Tinubu promises to lift Lagos sports to enviable heights

Booyamin Ayodeji Tinubu, pioneer Chairman/Special Adviser, Lagos State Sports Commission, who was sworn Monday by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has hit the ground running with a promise to lift Lagos State sports to enviable heights.
He said this at the first meeting he held with the management staff of the Commission immediately on resumption of office at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Deji Tinubu, a trained production Engineer with passion for sports has once been the Chairman of the defunct Lagos State Sports Council. During his administration at the Council, sports management was redefined.
According to Mr. Tinubu, who was a former executive member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), his plan is to take sports to another stratosphere in Lagos.
The Chairman/Special Adviser opined that there would be new introductions and additions to the existing sports programmes, as things are going to be
done in new ways for better results.
He hopes that after his four years tenure, Lagos would have become the sports hub of not only Nigeria but Africa. He reiterated the need to have a sports culture with data collection, collation, analysis with formulation of programmes to take care of the athletes needs with a view of being self-sufficient in future.
Tinubu said that Lagos must go back to celebrate its local heroes in order to serve as motivation for the upcoming athletes. He also emphasised that in between competitions, Lagos athletes must be engaged through mentoring, counselling and teaching.
“Potential of what is achievable is verse and immeasurable. Lagos has the potential to excel in sports. Members of staff who are carrier sports officers and administrators should be prepared to work hard for any meaningful achievement and accomplishment”, he said.
