Police arraign man who defiled girl, 5

The police in Benin on Thursday arraigned one Ogbe Moses, before an Evbouriaria Magistrate’s Court for unlawful carnal knowledge of a 5-year-old girl.

He allegedly committed the offence on March 2, 2016, at Elemare Street, off Sapele Road in Benin.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Olatoye Oluwaseun, told the court that the accused unlawfully inserted his penis into the victim’s vagina.

Oluwaseun said the offence contravened section 218 of the criminal code cap. 48 Vol. II laws of the defunct Bendel of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge boarding on unlawful carnal knowledge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. C.E. Oghuma, granted the accused bail in the sum of‎ N400,000 and a surety in like sum, who must be level 14 civil servant.

Oghuma adjourned the case till April 4 for hearing. ‎
