A 12 year-old boy, Michael Ogbemudia, is lying critically in the trauma ward of the Benin Central Hospital, following the deep machete cuts inflicted on his head by his 10-year old brother (name withheld).

Michael who is battling to survive, was allegedly attacked with a machete by his younger brother during a fight with another boy.

The incident occurred last week Wednesday at their school, Ehonudin Primary School, Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state.

‎Father of the boys, Paul Ogbemudia, narrated how the incident occurred to journalists on Monday, at the hospital, when a governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, Godwin Obaseki, visited the hospital as part of Easter celebration.‎

Mr. Ogbemudia disclosed that his younger boy inflicted deep machete cuts on his elder brother when he attempted to stop him from fighting with another boy. He said the younger boy claimed that Michael joined others to fight him which was why he used the machete on him.

Michael’s condition is however made worse by the inability of their father to raise enough money to carry out a brain scan to enable doctors treat him.

Obaseki, the APC governorship however came to his rescue when he took pity on the plight of Michael and offered to pay for the medical bills including the brain scan.

Obaseki also paid the medical bills of other patients, including Ahmedu Yusufu, who doctors said his bones were eating away.

He explained that the gesture was part of his activities to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

Over 25 patients benefited from the governorship aspirant who paid over N1 million to settle medical bills.

Many of the patients that benefited from the goodwill were those that have been treated and discharged but were held back at the hospital because they could not pay their medical bills.
