Court denies man bail for sexual assault

An Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin on Thursday denied one Lucky Alabi, 22, bail for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs J.O. Ejale, in her ruling, said that the accused could only be considered for bail upon the appearance of the victim and her parents on the next adjourned date.

The prosecutor, Mr Thomas Ojo, earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 17 at about 1.30 p.m. in his residence, No. 6, Ogie Avenue, Off M.M Way, Benin.

Ojo, a sergeant, alleged that the accused inserted his finger into the minor’s vagina.

He said the offence contravened the Criminal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

Ejale adjourned the case to Aug. 29 for hearing.
