A Kano Magistrates’ Court has slammed a bail of N10 million on two men, who allegedly sold off a company’s diesel worth N8 million and appropriated the money.

The accused, Tayo Raji, 38, and Wale Adefoluke, 40, are facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Raji lives at Brigade Quarters, Kano, while Adefoluke, resides at Danladi Nasidi Estate, also in Kano.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Aminu Fagge, who gave the ruling, also granted the duo two reliable sureties each in like sum in addition to the N5 million bail each.

Fagge said one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 10 and that both sureties and accused should deposit two recent passport-size photographs each at the court.

Earlier, Prosecutor Yusuf Sale told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in 2013.

“On June 20, the court received a written complaint about the accused from Faruk Danbaito and Co. legal practitioners on behalf of A.A. Rano Nigeria Ltd.

“In 2013, the company, A.A Rano, entrusted the diesel worth over N8 million into the care of the accused.

“The accused entered into an agreement with the complainant to sell the diesel and remit the money to the company, but they converted the money to personal use,” he told the court.

The offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.

The case was adjourned to Sept. 19 for mention.
