Nigeria’s Aribisala wins prestigious John Avery Award

Top Nigerian food essayist, Yemisi Aribisala has won the prestigious John Avery Award in the UK at the Andre Simon Food and Drink Awards for her book, “Long Throat Memoirs: Soup, Sex and Nigerian Taste Buds.”

The book was published by Cassava Republic Press.

Aribisala, is the first black African to win the award.

Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, Publishing Director of Cassava Press, accepted the award on behalf of Aribisala.

The judges praised the originality of the book in its style and contents.

Cassava Republic Press says it is very proud and delighted to have won the prestigious prize.

Aribisala, a gifted essayist, has not only written about Nigerian food, she has also written about Nigerian politics and religion.

She lives in Cape Town, South Africa with her children.
