The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three armed robbery suspects accused of robbing drivers and commuters on Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, along the Akagbeugwu axis of the road.

The command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu, said that the police recovered one pump action automatic machine gun and one Beretta pistol with live ammunition from the suspects.

Amaraizu said that the suspects were arrested on Jan. 30 through the cooperation of the neighbourhood watch groups of Umuatugboma Akaegbeugwu and Obunofia communities.

He gave the names of the suspects as Emeka Chidogu of Obinagu, Amaechi Awkunanaw in Enugu South council area of the state, Emmanuel Okoh of Amuri community and Ifeanyi Nwaukwu of Agbani community both in Nkanu West council area of the state.

“The notorious armed robbery suspects have been terrorising members of the public, particularly users of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway of Akagbeugwu axis of the state,’’ the police spokesman said.

He said that the suspects were currently helping the police in the investigation into the alleged nefarious activities.
