Flood: Zimbabwe appeals for $100m aid

Zimbabwe on Friday appealed to international donors for 100 million dollars aid after floods killed 246 people and left 2,000 homeless since December, the Minister of Local Government said.

Saviour Kasukuwere said: “we have recorded cases of 246 deaths as of Thursday night and about 2,000 people homeless, and more than 100 injured.

“It is these marooned people who were rescued in some cases by the air force of Zimbabwe that we want to have some decent living.

“They needed shelter and food, it is a sad story in all our low-lying areas”.

The government had declared the flooding a national disaster.

The country has experienced abundant rains for three months.

Floods have destroyed houses, bridges and roads.
