Fans of the Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna have initiated an award for the `best player” of the club in every home match.

Alhaji Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the club, disclosed this on Tuesday in Minna, while presenting an undisclosed cash award to its first awardee, Abubakar Babawo, an attacker, who netted the two goals in the team’s 2-1 victory over Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reveals that the match was played on Sunday in Lokoja, where the Minna club plays their home matches, due to the non-completion of the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

NAN also reports that Babawo was the first player to receive such reward.

Aliyu, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Musa Matane, urged the club’s fans to sustain the initiative so as to encourage players to put in their best in every home match.

Mr Amos Jako, Chairman of the fans club, in his statement, said that the award was instituted to ensure that the players performed optimally.

Babawo, who expressed surprise at the award, promised to put in his best for the club that currently occupies the 4th position in the league table with 27 points from 17 matches.
