The Kwara State Government on Thursday said it had conducted competency-based test for directors and their deputy in the state civil service to determine their suitability for future appointments.

Hajia Zahra Omar, the State Head of Service, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

She said that about 165 top officers in the state civil service who participated in the test were drawn from the 16 local government areas of the state.

According to her, the essence of the examination is to keep the senior civil servants on their toes and to ensure that they are up to date with political and national events.

“The essence of the test is also for future appointments into top civil service positions”, she said.

On the welfare of the state`s civil servants, Omar said that apart from ensuring prompt payment of salaries, the state government was planning to embark on housing projects for its workers.

She added that the state was also partnering the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide refurbishment loans for those that might want to renovate their existing buildings.

She, however, encouraged civil servants in the state to ensure they improved on their present educational qualifications to boost their chances to higher levels in the service.
