The Kano State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Nuradeen Sagir, has freed 12 inmates who overstayed in captivity to decongest Kano prison.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Judiciary, Alhaji Baba Jibo in Kano on Thursday.
According to the statement, the inmates were released on Wednesday, April 26, When the Chief Judge visited Goron Dutse prison and reviewed their case Files.
“This is in pursuant to the power conferred on him by section 1 of the criminal Justice (Released from custody) special provisions Act 1977.
Sagir also promised to assist in the decongestion of prisons by the speedy trial of cases in High Courts, Magistrates and Sharia Courts and called on prisons authorities to cooperate with the Judiciary in the exercise.
Earlier in his remarks, reducing the Comptroller of prison, Alhaji Aliyu Achor, said the Nigerian Prison Services was willing to cooperate with the State in reducing the menace of congestion in prison.
