Ahead of the planned Alapere Traffic Improvement and Management Phase II, the Lagos State Government on Friday pledged minimal demolition while appealing to the people to support the administration’s effort at bringing development to the area.
The project, which will see to the development of Oluwakemi Street and some adjacent streets developed into four-lane road from Alapere to Agboyi, is planned to carry traffic from Alapere through Agboyi towards Ikorodu.
The meeting was attended by both the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowoshe and the Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Anofiu Elegushi.
Speaking, Anifowoshe explained that the stakeholders forum was government’s intention to ensure inclusive governance.
He added that consultation had become an integral part of the administration as it attempted to bring development to communities.
Anifowoshe noted that the initial efforts of the contractor, which was faulted, led to the new consultation.
He explained that a new Master Plan for Agboyi-Ketu would soon be unveiled along with other development plan for the area.
According to him, the resolution of the traffic hiccups along the axis would signpost economic growth and development of the community, stating that that the Ambode’s Administration was determined to ensure even development across the state.
He stated that the state government would address all the neglects of the past.
In his comment, the Commissioner for Transportation, Elegushi stated that finding solutions to the challenges of transportation was a core aspect of the policy commitment of the government.
He called on the community to rededicate themselves to partnering with the government to ensure promptly completion of the project.
He declared the readiness of the Ministry, through the contractor, to promptly complete the project as soon as the Right of Way was established.
Commenting on the project, a community leader, Comrade Joseph Evra urged government to put human face to the project by way of ensuring prompt compensation or replacement of parts demolished.
While expressing gratitude to the governor for his commitment to even development, Evra urged the administration to continue to strive for greater development of Agboyi community.
