Two teenagers, Olaitan Lawal and Nasiru Ali, who allegedly broke into their co-tenant’s apartment and stole four phones valued at N150,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused are standing trial before Magistrate O.I. Raji on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
Lawal, a mechanic and Ali, unemployed, both aged 18, are residents of Emiloju Street, Agege, Lagos.
They denied the charges, and were admitted to a bail of N30,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 20 at their residence.
He said that the accused burgled the apartment of Mr Haruna Idris and stole four mobile phones.
“The accused stole one Nokia phone, an Iphone, a Tecno android phone and an Etisalat phone,” he said.
Nwosu said that the accused destroyed Idris’s burglarproof to gain entrance into his apartment.
“They damaged the door to have access to the complainant’s room.
“The complainant received a call that his apartment had been burgled from a neighbour, who saw the accused when perpetuating the crimes.
“Before he got home, the accused had sold the phones,” the prosecutor said.
Alleged offences contravene Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The accused may be jailed for up to seven years, if found guilty, according to the sections.
The case has been adjourned until June 22 for mention.
