The National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), said on Thursday that it had commenced the enlistment of Nigerian motion picture industry on its policy and research module.
The Acting Director-General, Mr Jonathan Juma, said during a visit to the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) Jos, that once the process is completed, motion picture practitioners would be attending the institution’s courses.
Juma said the institute would collaborate with the Nigerian Film Corporation to develop the industry.
“When the processes of enlisting are concluded, the Institute will accept motion picture practitioner’s nominations for its annual senior course programme designed to empower participants on government’s critical development policies and implementation strategies.
“The motion picture production activities should be adequately supported in order to position it next to agriculture in terms of income generation and engaging the teeming unemployed youths,“ he said.
Juma lauded the various initiatives by NFC to reposition its training arm, the National Film Institute (NFI), promising to assist with resources for its teaching and research in motion picture production.
Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of NFC, Dr Chidia Maduekwe, called on Federal and State governments, institutes and agencies to partner in designing programmes and projects that would empower Nigerians.
Maduekwe said that NFC was working towards sustainable policies and adoption of strategic framework for the growth of the Nigerian motion picture industry.
“The Nigerian Film sector is in dire need for the establishment of the proposed National Film Development Fund, this is to provide a formal funding window for film production activities, just like other sectors of the nation’s economy,“ he said.
The two organisations are collaborating towards organizing National Conference on Nigeria’s Creative Industry slated for the third quarter of the year.
The conference will provide government and other stakeholders the platform to design national policy framework for sustainable development of the sector.
