The Kano State Ministry of Health has shut down a company for unwholesome fertiliser processing.
The operation was conducted by the state Task Force on fake, counterfeit and adulterated foods and drugs on Thursday evening.
Speaking shortly after the closure of the company, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Getso, renewed government commitment in protecting its citizens.
He explained that the welfare and wellbeing of the people of the state was the priority of the government.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr Ghali Sule, said the company was raided after receiving reports of the irregular activities from residents.
According to Sule, “They (company) mix original agro chemical products known as Atrazine with fake material and called it herbicides.”
The chairman explained that the chemical caused poor yield and caused a lot of damages to the farm products.
Sule also revealed that the company would be prosecuted after proper investigation.
The company, Jee Combi, was accused of mixing groundnut and sorghum and selling same to unsuspecting farmers as fertiliser.
