Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has charged new Corps members deployed to the State to work for the unity of the nation in order to achieve the aim of the scheme.

Obaseki gave the charge on Monday at the closing ceremony of the 2017 batch “A” Stream 1 orientation course, held at the temporary Orientation Camp, Okada, Ovia North East Local government area of the State.

The governor, who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, noted that the nation is undergoing various reforms and developmental challenges in its entire polity at the moment.

He reminded that the new Corps members of the need to key into the positive change, just as he advised them to shun nepotism and corruption which he said have ravaged the entire society.

Obaseki, who noted that the vibrancy of the youth was the strength of national cohesion, urged them to explore areas that needed growth and development in the country through hard-work, dedication, loyalty, discipline, patriotism and commitment.

While urging them to impact positively on the lives of Nigerians, the governor noted that this was the only way the objectives and set goals of the scheme would be achieved.

According to him, the effective realization of the scheme would not only promote unity but also promote real integration among Nigerians and effect the most meaningful development of the country.

Obaseki, who promised to support the scheme, urged them to undertake developmental projects in rural areas which he said would no doubt encourage the spirit of self-help and patriotism among their host communities.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf Baba, while presenting the 1,911 Corps members to the State Governor, said they would be posted to rural areas where their services were mostly needed to impart positively in the lives of the members of their host communities.
