The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday called for closer partnership with the Police command in Enugu State to ensure smooth operation of the commission in the state.

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr Emeka Ononamadu, made the call when he led management staff of the commission on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Danmallam Mohammed.

Ononamadu said that the Police and INEC had been partners in progress for the survival of democracy.

He said he was at the command to register his presence and to cement the existing relationship between INEC and the police command.

The state commission boss lauded the efforts of the command in making the state peaceful.

He said the command, in partnership with the government and people of the state, had succeeded in making Enugu State one of the peaceful states to dwell in.
