Foundation Restates Commitment To Promotion Of Academic Excellence

A Non-governmental organization, NGO, Younis Olatunji Basorun Education Foundation (YOBEF); has restated its commitment to the promotion of academic excellence at all levels of educations in Lagos State, assuring that it will intensify efforts to assist students attain greater heights in their academic pursuit.

A Non-governmental organization, NGO, Younis Olatunji Basorun Education Foundation (YOBEF); has restated its commitment to the promotion of academic excellence at all levels of educations in Lagos State, assuring that it will intensify efforts to assist students attain greater heights in their academic pursuit.

According to the Chairman, Board of Trustees, YOBEF, Alhaji Chief Abayomi Aiyepola, the Foundation identified challenges facing teaching and learning in the 21st century and decided to support government to tackle the myriads of challenges in the sector through offering of scholarship and educational grants to brilliant but indigent students from Secondary schools across the State.

While addressing a Press Conference on the activities of the Foundation since inception at Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo, the Chairman said that the Foundation remained committed to its goal of modelling students, teachers and school administrators to become true agents of change in the society.

“Since the inception of YOBEF, the Foundation had been channelling its efforts towards the advancement of education in Lagos State and will not relent in supporting students to achieve outstanding performance.” the chairman stated.

According to him, YOBEF had been promoting the culture of healthy rivalry among schools through schools debates and quiz competitions across all the Education Districts in the State where prizes are being presented to the most outstanding students, schools and teachers, also bursary awards given to students to aid their academics.

The Chairman stated that capacity building was another tool the foundation used to help teachers from both primary and secondary schools through training and workshops.

This year’s theme is “Better School Administration: Impacting the right knowledge on other Teachers at their various Schools.”

On his part, the Secretary of the foundation, Mr. Rasheed Adesina said the foundation would also be funding academic research works, adding that plans were underway to extend the annual bursary awards to tertiary institutions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Adesina who enjoined corporate bodies and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the foundation as the education is the only legacy one could bequeath a child.

Also speaking at the event, a Permanent Secretaty in the Lagos State Public Service and a member of Younis Foundation, Dr. Olajide Basorun urged the beneficiaries of the bursary award to use the opportunity judiciously such that the intention of the initiative would be sustained.

One of the beneficiaries of the bursary Award, Mistura Isiaq commended the Foundation for coming to her aid as her parent would not have been able to pay her examination fees but for the assitance of the bursary award from the Foundation.
