A Lagos based businessman and resident of Amuwo Odifin area of Lagos, Emeka Ejidike, 43 has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of USD50, 000 from his friend, Val Ejike under false pretence.

Ejidike was arrested on the order of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ilasan Division, Lekki, Lagos, SP Onyinye Onwuamegbu following a complaint by Val Ejike and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a 3-count charge of stealing.

Police prosecutor, Chniedu Njoku informed the court in charge No B/55/2017 that the accused committed the alleged offence on 23 March, 2017 in Lekki, Lagos.

Njoku told the court that the accused collected the sum of USD50, 000 equivalents to N18, 500, 000 from the complainant to help him change the money to Naira equivalent but instead the accused converted the money to his personal use and escaped.

He said that the accused was eventually arrested at a hideout through intelligence gathering and taken to the station.

Njhoku said that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411, 314 (1) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N5M with two sureties in like sum.

Botoku adjourned the case till 13 September, 2017 and ordered that the defendant be remanded at Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when he is able to fulfill his bail conditions.
