The Zamfara Government on Tuesday urged all communities in the state to ensure effective maintenance of projects executed in their areas.
The State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Lawal Liman, made the call in an interview with newsmen after meeting with some contractors in Gusau.
Liman said that the state government had embarked on monitoring of all the ongoing projects across the state to ensure quality jobs were done by the contractors.
“We are also emphasising on the need for maintenance of such projects after completion.

“Over the years, government has been spending huge amount of money on execution of projects, but due to lack of maintenance, some of these projects have been vandalised, while some were dilapidated.
“It is very unfortunate that our people show less concern to various government projects in their areas.
“I think if government can execute a project in a community, it becomes the responsibility of the communities to protect such facilities to the best of their ability.
“We are collaborating with the traditional rulers, local authorities and other stakeholders to creating public awareness on the need to ensure proper maintenance of projects in their localities,” he said.
