A Kuje Upper Area Court, in the FCT, on Thursday sentenced three men–Ibrahim Abubakar, Abdul Maikasuwa and Dikko Sabo, to three months imprisonment each for public nuisance.
The judge, Mr Abdulkarem Abdulahi, convicted them as they pleaded guilty to a count charge of public nuisance.
They begged for leniency saying, “we promise not to disturb at late hours again, we are sorry.”
Abdulahi, however, gave the convicts N 3,000 option of fine each.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ocheche, had told the court that the matter was reported at the Kuje Police Station on Oct. 12 by a team of policemen on patrol.
Ocheche said the convicts of no fixed addresses and who could not give satisfactory account of themselves were arrested by the police at odd hours.
“On Oct. 10 at about 12.30 a.m., a team of policemen on patrol, led by ASP Alfa Musa arrested Abubakar, Maikasuwa and Sabo at a liquor joint around Paseli area.
“The men were shouting and disturbing the neighbourhood, when they saw the police van approaching, they tried to escape, but they were arrested,’’ he said.
The prosecutor alleged that the convicts were in the habit of disturbing the neighbourhood at odd hours.
According to him, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 183 of the Penal Code.
