Feferuwa Community in Lafia North Development Area of Nasarawa State has appealed to the state government to reconstruct the road linking the area to Lafia, the state capital.

Members of the community said that the reconstruction of the road would boost food production and socio-economic activities in the area.

Mr Abdulmumin Sabo, the District Head, made the appeal on behalf of the residents on Thursday in Lafia when the community members embarked on the repair of the road.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the residents were filled the deplorable portions of the road with stones and sand.

Feferuwa community is about 35 kilometres to Lafia, the state capital.

Sabo said the community decided to embark on the communal effort to repair the roads to transport agricultural produce to Lafia and other places.

He said that the repair of the road would also boost socio-economic activities for the overall development of the state.

The district head also appealed for more government presence in the area, especially infrastructure to improve their standard of living.

“If the state government constructs the road, it would go a long way in boosting agricultural activities as well as fighting unemployment and poverty.

Sabo commended Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for his development strides across the state, while appealing to the state government to extend more gestures to the community.

“As you are aware the people in this community are predominantly farmers who cultivate crops like yam, cassava, rice and millet, among others.

“The presence of good road will boost their agricultural and socio-economic activities positively.

“The road if constructed, will not only boost agricultural production, but would also improve on the health of the people as well as fast track development to the area,’’ he said.

Sabo called on the people of the state to support Almakura administration to succeed in the tasks ahead of him.

He enjoined the people and the state to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

“No nation or society could achieve meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour as peace is priceless and non-negotiable, hence the need for Nigerians to embrace it,” he said.
