Nile University to promote academic excellence – VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Nile University, Prof. Huseyin Sert, has reiterated the commitment of the institution in setting standards that would lead to the academic excellence of students.

Sert made this known in Abuja on Saturday at a one-day workshop for Principals of private schools.

The theme of the workshop is tagged: “Private Universities and its place in Nation Building: Standard, Qualities and Expectations”.

The vice-Chancellor said that education in Nigeria was experiencing some levels of transformation, which was in line with best global best practices.

He stressed the need to sustain the momentum to achieve sustainable development, especially in the educational sector of the country.

“Nile university vision is to provide students with the opportunity for quality education that will bring out the best in them and make them stand tall through time.

“Additionally, we are committed to equipping our students with the academic and social capacity they require to enable them to excel in their future endeavour.

“It cannot be overemphasised that private universities are expected to set standards and provide quality education, especially in the Nigerian education sector where there are more applicants than there are institutions to fill this need.”

Sert added that the workshop was apt as it would create the awareness about the role of private universities in filling these gaps and taking up the essential role in nation building.

He added that the university was also set to make the improvement that would better improve the students and stakeholders in the sector.

He promised to provide the right environment for the students that would, in turn, attract the best brain to harness the country’s resources towards economic growth and sustainable development.

Also, Mrs Fatima Jiddum, Director, Scholarship Board, Ministry of Education welcomed the initiative, saying that it would reintroduce the standards of private universities in Nigeria.

Jiddum said that with the intervention of private universities, the Nigeria education system now competes favourably with other universities all over the world.

“Nile University has succeeded in trying to set the pace in ensuring that dreams are actualised through excellent academic training in line with the demands facing the world.

“The school has also ensured that students are well trained and groomed into the competitive world.”

She said that the efforts of the school was to complement that of the government in ensuring standards that are competitive globally.

She emphasized that the government cannot do it alone, hence the need for private universities’ intervention and involvement in nations building.

She, however, encouraged the principals and administrators of schools to take advantage of the workshop to build the capacity to their schools.
