A 32-year old caterer, Jamiu Adeyemo, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court charged with theft of N1.3 million jewellery and other valuables, property of Justice Yetunde Adesanya’s mother.

Jamiu, who resides at No. 30, Paul Okuntola St., Mushin, Lagos, is facing a four-count charge of unlawful entry, felony, stealing and malicious damage.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Matthew Akhaluode, the accused committed the offences on Feb. 8 at 12.00 p.m.

The accused, he said, unlawfully broke into a five-bedroom apartment of 88-year old man, damaged and stole property including gold jewellery valued at N1.3 million.

Akhaluode said that the property belonged to Mr Moses and the Late Mrs Florence Adedoyin Adebayo.

“The accused stole gold jewellery valued at N500, 000, property of the Late Deaconess Florence Adedoyin Adebayo, the mother of Honourable Justice Yetunde Adesanya and damaged eight doors valued at N800, 000 totalling N1. 3 million,” he said.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Y. R. Pinheniro granted him a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The offences violated Sections 287, 307, 308 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Sections 287 and 307 stipulate seven years imprisonment for offenders.

Further hearing has been fixed for March 13.
