Mrs Funke Kolawole, the Chief Librarian of the Osun State Library Board, says an average of 2,000 students and researchers use the state library in Osogbo monthly.

Kolawole told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Tuesday that during examination periods, the figure of users usually rises to more than 3,000.

According to her, the library provides a learning environment for its users, who often times are students, researchers, teachers, and public servants.

She canvassed adequate funding for the state library for it to perform its statutory functions.

Kolawole said that the economic situation of the state had hindered the management of the library from accessing its budgetary allocation in the last few years.

She also said that this paucity of funds had deprived the library’s management from placing orders for new books.

“The state library needs more funding to re-stock and put in place other advance technologies that can aid reading and research.

“At a time, the state government was providing the library enough funds to keep it up to date.

“But, because of the economic situation of the state, the government has not been able to provide the required funds over the years.’’, she said.

She, however, commended the state government for carrying out maintenance works in the state library.

Kolawole also lauded the government for putting in place an electronic-library with 50 computers, adding that this facility had made online reading and research works easy for users.

She urged the public to register with the management of the library to enable them use the facility.
