A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nicholas Ossai (PDP-Delta), said about 120 persons from Delta have so far benefitted from his constituency projects on various skills acquisition.
Ossai told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that the gesture was in line with Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa’s “Smart Agenda” programme, aimed at empowering the people of the state.
The lawmaker noted that a lot of projects had been carried out in his constituency ranging from solar water scheme, road construction and youth empowerment among others.
“We have also trained and empowered women; we will be training about 400 men and women on plantain production.
“Most of our women do a lot of farming and our men too, so they are into farming and you know that plantain do well in the area.
“In my federal constituency, Ndukwa East, the soil is fertile for plantain production. So we are going to train them in those fields and give them fund so that they can also fend for themselves,’’ Ossai said.
He noted that he had sponsored 50 bills including Corporate Social Responsibility Bill, which had been passed and signed into law.
Ossai also commended Gov. Okonwa on his role in nation building, especially in areas of education and road construction among others.
He said that the governor had also empowered youths with skills acquisition.
“My governor has done well. I think he is doing his best because in every local government headquarters, road construction had been constructed.
“Our governor is a man who looks at education of the children and is able to give them a skill that will help their future, while an abandoned technical school has been revived.
“Virtually all the secondary schools in Delta State is undergoing a little of renovations and teachers now attend school regularly to teach the students.
“Secondly, you can also see human capital development in terms of empowerment of youths as entrepreneurs.
“Last time the governor won an award in terms of entrepreneur bill in Nigeria, you could see where Delta is going to without oil.”
Ossai added that the state was developing in terms of manpower skills.
“We are developing a lot of manpower skills as we are going to export to other states in our country, especially those states that lack manpower, these are the way to go, you teach people how to fish, and don’t give them the fish.
“Most interesting thing about Delta was that it made money available after been taught, you are given a starter pack to kick off your own field,” he said.
