The Plateau government says it will revamp its six vocational and relevant technology centres to equip youths with the skills to be self reliant.

Mr Dan Manjang, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Jos, that the centres were fitted with facilities for the training on youths on various skills toward self-reliance.

He said that government was looking toward reducing the number idle youths on Plateau streets with a view to mobilise everyone to contribute to societal growth.

The centres, which are located in Jos, Bassa, Pankshin, Lantang, Wase and Quanpang had not been very active over the past few years.

Until they went aground, the centres were producing furniture, hospital and school equipment, bags, shoes, among many other items.

“We have inaugurated a five-man board for the Vocational and Relevant Technology Centre; the members are experts in various fields and we are confident that they will resuscitate the centres and map out strategies for technological advancement in Plateau.

“We have assured them of our full support and we are confident that they will deliver on their mandate,” he said.

Manjang advised the board members to enlighten members of the public on the mandate of the centres so as to boost the enrollment.
