Kwara Government says it will partner with the Federal Government to open an international border market in Chinkada, Baruteen Local Government Area of the state.

Alhaji Bayo Onimago, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives, made the disclosure on Thursday on the sidelines of the ongoing Kwara Trade Fair in Ilorin.

“The international border market in Chikanda is an initiative in which the state government will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment.

“Space has been marked for the trans-border trading and the process is ongoing,” Onimago told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the Federal Government had proposed the establishment of one trans-border market in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country, with Kwara benefiting from the North-Central Zone.

Onimago said that the state government had extended the ongoing trade fair by four days to allow more customers to participate.

Also, Mr Anu Ibiwoye, the Special Adviser to Gov. Ahmed Abdulfatah on Agriculture and Rural Water Support Service, expressed satisfaction with the huge display of locally made goods at the trade fair.

“We are happy with the level of commercial and industrial activities that are ongoing in the state.

“The state government will partner with relevant agencies to enhance entrepreneurial skills through loans,” Ibiwoye told NAN.
