Dr Christian Madubuko, the Anambra Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Markets and Wealth Creation, has warned illegal revenue collectors in the state to stop or face the wrath of the law.
The commissioner also called on individuals, agents, corporate bodies, who collect levies across the state on behalf of the ministry to stop forthwith.
Madubuko made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Awka.
He said that Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), in all the markets and business premises across the state was being interfered with and expressed the determination to put a stop to it.
Madubuko said that those who were issued with letters of authority by the ministry to collect such levies should come forward for proper identification and clarification.
He said that the aim was to checkmate the activities of illegal collectors, who might forge government receipts as well as to curb double collection of levies from traders.
The commissioner said that the decision followed the constant reports from traders and people of the state that many revenue collectors were approaching them for payment.
He assured that the verification of authentic collectors would soon be concluded.
Madubuko added that heads of various market units would be duly communicated on the right method of payments and mode of identification of the genuine collectors.
