RSW programme is the needed catalyst for graduates to excel – Caleb VC

The Ready Set‎ Work, RSW, an employability and entrepreneurship training initiative of the Lagos State Government has been described as the needed catalyst for graduates to excel in their chosen professions and careers.

The Vice Chancellor, Caleb University, Professor Ayandiji Aina made this known when the sensitization tour of this year’s edition of the RSW was taken to the University’s Main Campus in Imota, Ikorodu on Tuesday.

In a welcome address, the Vice Chancellor who expressed gratitude to the State Government for giving undergraduates in the institution the opportunity to participate in the important programme, noted that in the areas of education and youth empowerment in the Country, Lagos State has been a model worthy of emulation.

Aina gave the assurance that his students who would enroll in the RSW academy would bring outstanding commitment and team spirit into the programme.

 

Familiarizing the students with the importance and what to expect in the online course known as the academy and the physical mentorship and training at designated centres, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh explained that the initiative was part of the Ambode administration’s vision to ensure that undergraduates who were in their penultimate and final years in tertiary institutions within the State participated in the programme to enhance their employability at graduation, among other benefits. ‎

Bank-Olemoh, who stated that there would be provision for breakfast and lunch for all participating students, also emphasized that classes would start at 9am and close at 5pm for 13 Saturdays and ‎urged the prospective participants to take advantage of the life changing initiative.

He stated that the deadline for registration is on the 30th of this month and that 25,000 students were expected to take part in the training, with 5,000 final year students to take part in the 13-week training, out of which 2,000 would be selected to go on internship.

In an interview, two of the students, Justina Agbede and Emmanuel Akobi who spoke of their readiness to apply and go through the online pre-qualification process, also made known their optimism to explore the opportunity by giving it their best shot to ensure a better future for themselves. ‎

Caleb University is the first privately owned tertiary institution to be included in the RSW initiative, bringing the number of participating schools to eight in this year’s edition.
