Senator Tayo Alasoadura, the Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, has donated an 18-seater bus to the Students Union Government (SUG) of Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The lawmaker made the donation in a brief ceremony on Monday at the university campus in Akure.
“Today’s event is not a mere donation, but also the restoration of hope in leadership and a challenge to future leaders.
“It’s a demonstration of the promise made and a promise fulfilled,’’ he said.
The Senator said that in building a great nation, the youths must be properly equipped and positioned for leadership and responsibilities.
He said that the bus was to encourage the movement of students union and their participation not only on campus affairs but their participation in other institutions’ activities.
“This is a redemption of my promise to FUTA SUG and in fulfilment of part of my electoral promises.
“Therefore, it will ease your movement and I urge you to be true to your commitments in life,’’ he said.
The Senator said that he had been keeping faith with his constituency by attracting some projects with his personal money.
“This is a loud testimony of my well-known tradition of standing by my words and my resolve to raise the bar and set a standard for legislative representation and performance.
“I have raised motions and sponsored bills that are of great importance to Nigeria and to my Senatorial district.
“I have on several occasions, organised empowerment programmes for our people in my district.
“I promise to continue to justify the trust and confidence of my constituents in me by providing more responsive, purposeful and productive representation,’’ he said.
Alasoadura, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), tasked Nigerian youths on leadership positions.
“Students should bear it in mind that their present positions as students’ leaders are meant to prepare them for future leadership in an enlarged environment.
“Pursuing value-adding activities will place you at a vantage position in future,’’ he said.
He thanked FUTA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adeola Fuwape, for the prevailing peace in the institution.
Fuwape, in his remarks, promised that the institution would continue to support the Senator in his well-meaning programmes for his consistency.
He said that the Senator had transformed many lives beyond the bus he donated.
The President of FUTA SUG, Mr Olasehinde Olayinka, thanked the Senator for the gesture and promised that the students would make good ambassadors of the university.
Olayinka said that the entire university community would always support him.
