Abaji council restates commitment to improve health of residents

Alhaji Abdulrahaman Ajiya, Executive Chairman of Abaji Area Council, FCT, on Monday reiterated the commitment of his administration to improve the health status of people of the area.

Ajiya gave the commitment at the launching of Free Medical Outreach programme organised by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) at Abaji.

The event is part of NMA 58th Annual Conference in the Federal Capital Territory.

“Permit me to reemphasise the commitment of this administration toward improving the health status of all the populace of Abaji Area Council.

“The area council is ready to collaborate with NMA, development partners and all other stakeholders within the health sector to improve the quality of health care in the communities in Abaji.

“However, since the inception of this administration, it had carried out a wide range of health intervention programmes like National Health campaign for women and children.

“Other; are construction and renovation of health facilities, equipping of health centres and employment of more health personnel among other health services,” Ajiya said.

The Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Yunusa, appealed to the NMA to attend to all the people that turned up for the programme.

“We need additional days for the free Medical Outreach for my people.

“It is suppose to hold today and tomorrow, but we want you to add one day to the programme,” the traditional ruler said.

Earlier, Dr Kinsley Enweremadu, National Vice-President of NMA said the association was holding its Annual General Meeting and Conference in Abuja.

“And it is our tradition that wherever we go for any of our events, we seek out for some of the rural areas in need of healthcare. This time around it is Abaji.

“We regard Abaji as a base, we believe we should give our services to the best of our ability to the people.

“This is the opportunity for the people of Abaji to get the best of medical services. We have a pool of competent medical personnel to attend to their needs,” Enweremadu said.

High points of the occasion were health talk on the need to visit medical health facilities for professional service delivery and traditional dance by Abaji local dancers.
