Mr Chuks Oseme, Chairman, Aniocha North Local Government Council, Delta, has presented a budget estimate of N1.8 billion to the legislative arm for the 2018 fiscal year.
The estimate, Christened ‘budget of reality’, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Wednesday but presented to the councillors on Tuesday.
According to Oseme, the N1.8 billion is made up of N1.2 billion as recurrent expenditure and N555 million for capital expenditure.
Oseme said that the budget would be funded from statutory allocation, Internally Generated Revenue and other capital receipts.
He said the council was poised to ensure that all salaries of staff were paid, explaining that it accounted for the reason why more funds were allocated for recurrent expenditure.
He said that his team would work very hard to boost the council’s revenue to ensure that apart from meeting its obligation to pay salaries, the council should execute some capital projects.
“We are trying to be proactive with the reforms we are undertaking in revenue collection by blocking of leakages in all revenue sources,” he said.
The leader of the legislative arm, Mr Ekene Nwaonye, assured the chairman that the lawmakers would scrutinise the budget and do the needful.
