2019: Utilize your voting strength, Abia Speaker tells women

The Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Mr Chikwendu Kalu, has charged women to take advantage of their massive voting strength to elect right people into power in 2019.

Kalu made the call on Thursday in Umuahia, when a group of women under the aegis of “Women Initiative Abia State’’ visited him.

He stressed the importance of women in governance, saying that in any society where there was no woman, “something fundamental is missing’’.

According to him, there is no association, no community, platform, whether it is a church or a parliament, whenever there is no woman there, something fundamental is missing.

“That’s why early at an election, women will be there first to cast their votes. They will abandon their home and whatever they do for that day.

“They will not only cast their votes, they also wait and see the end to ensure that their votes count,” Kalu said.

Kalu cautioned women to beware of “politicians’’, who see politics as a business rather than an instrument for the emancipation of the people.

Earlier, the group’s Coordinator, Mrs Adanma Akpor, had congratulated and commended the speaker for his leadership prowess in the house.

Akpor said that the women were pleased with his leadership and were there to endorse him for a second term in the 2019 elections.

The group presented to Kalu, a giant portrait of himself, a Bible and a bunch of stickers for his 2019 campaign.
