A member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Umar Bago, on Friday urged Muslims to make use of the Ramadan period in praying for sustained peace, political stability and prosperity in the country.
Bago said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna on Friday that sustained prayers were necessary in assisting the country overcome its myriads of challenges.
” Nigerians irrespective of religious, tribal, ethic and political differences should pray fervently for God’s intervention in our nation socioeconomic and political activities.
“The Muslim Umma should be grateful and thankful to God for witnessing the Ramadan in good health and pray for His intervention in all our endeavours.
“Prayer is key in solving the problems of Nigeria, we should therefore collectively put our differences aside in praying sincerely for our country.”
Bago said the Ramadan was a period of spiritual upliftment, and urged wealthy Nigerians to help the poor in the best way they could.
” Your wealth only has value when you use it to help the poor and the needy while boundless rewards await you in the hereafter,” he said.
Bago who represents Chanchaga Federal Constituency in Niger, also called on traders to desist from indiscriminate increase in the prices of goods during and after the Ramadan.
He also called on Muslims faithful to be security conscious and undertake rewarding spiritual exercises during the Ramadan.
“We must develop the habit of being security conscious in view of the prevailing security challenges confronting the nation due to the antics of undesirable criminal elements and radical militants.
“We must be vigilant at all times to enable us confront the present security situation at hand.”
