Man sentenced to 1 year imprisonment for stealing car

A Minna Magistrates’ Court, on Friday sentenced a middle aged man, Isah Abubakar, to one year imprisonment for stealing a car.

Abubakar was docked on a count charge of theft, an offence, contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Sa’adatu Gambo, summarily tried and sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment in line with

Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The convict had admitted committing the offence, and begged for mercy.

Gambo, however, gave the convict an option to pay N30, 000 fine.

Earlier, the prosecution had told the court that one Mukaila Danladi of Gawu Babangida, in Gurara Local Government Area, reported the matter at the Gawu Police Station on March 3.

The prosecution told the court that the complainant parked his Toyota camry car at Lambata Market, only to come out of the market and discovered it had been stolen.

According to the prosecution, police detectives arrested the convict, as the stolen car was in his possession.
