The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned corps members serving in Delta to shun ethnic and religious divisions.

The State Coordinator, Mr Benjamin Omotade, gave the warning in Asaba on Friday during a rally to celebrate the scheme’s 45th anniversary of its establishment.

The NYSC scheme was established on May 22, 1973.

Omotade said, “ the NYSC is one and does not know or recognise any ethnic group or religion.’’

He said that the moment a corps member put on his or her ceremonial uniform, one could hardly know which tribe he or she came from or which religion he or she was practising.

The coordinator advised the corps members to see themselves as members of one big family serving the nation.

Omotade said that one of the gains of the scheme was that it had been a unifying factor among youths from across the country since it was established.

He said that at present there were corps members serving in every nook and cranny of the country.

He commended the government and people of Delta for being responsible and responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of corps members serving in the state.

A corps member, Miss Tinyang Tikwe, said that it was a good experience for her to be participating in the scheme. in Delta

Tikwe who said that the scheme brought her to Delta from Taraba, added that she had benefited from its skills acquisition programme.

She said that she had been able to learn how to bak, bread and cakes from it.

Another corps members, Mr Genesis Odeh, also said that the scheme brought him from Benue to Delta.
Odeh said that the scheme was interactive and moving the nation higher.
